Liverpool Floating Roadway Uptown
Looking up the former floating roadway towards St Nicholas' Place and the church of Our Lady and St Nicholas at the top. We can also see the distinctive Royal Liver Building to the right. The floating road was supported on pontoons that rose and fell with the tide. This meant that wagons and lorries could drive straight onto the landing stage and board the luggage ferries for the journey over the Mersey, whatever the state of the tide.
